4th September 2020

Dear Members

A quick email with a few updates and reminders about sailing events

Keelboats – Sunday 6th September: Keelboat informal race around the Creags. Flexible starting time between 1330 and 1500. Further information attached.

Dinghies – Sunday 6th September: Dinghy sailing sessions. We’d normally try and keep these to Saturdays but today was looking a bit miserable and we’d already lost last Wednesday so we’ve shifted to Sunday. 1330 as usual. Gentle reminder to everyone (myself included) please try and maintain distancing in the dinghy park – it can get a little congested at times.

Laser Sailors: We’ve got a nice fleet of Laser dinghies developing. We’re looking to have a low-key regatta for Lasers later this month, perhaps in parallel with one of our regular dinghy sailing sessions. Could any sailors who own or wish to sail a Laser get in touch with Ben Miller ben@owensails.com who has agreed to arrange it.

New Boat: Many members will be aware of the disappointing news that Kilbowie Outdoor Centre closed its doors earlier this year. THey provided fantastic experiences to school children from the North Lanarkshire area. One silver lining from that particular cloud is that OSC has been gifted the Drascombe Gig from the Centre.

This will provide another dimension to the sailing that we can offer:

– sailing for kids in stronger winds

– sailing for families

– transition from dinghies to bigger boats

Thanks to the bosun team who have been able to move the boat to Dungallan Park. I’m now writing a few grant applications to cover the costs of repairing the road trailer and some repairs/upgrades to the boat.

Best wishes to everyone
