Answers to some of our frequently asked questions
What’s On at the Club?
We run a variety of sailing sessions and events throughout the season, including regular dinghy sailing, keelboat racing, and social activities. Whether you’re looking to get on the water or see what’s happening around the clubhouse, our calendar is the best place to start and find up-to-date timings.
Can non-members join in?
Yes – some of our sessions are open to non-members on a temporary membership (£5 per person). These include:
Monday Mayhem: Fun and informal dinghy sailing for adults and children with at least RYA Level 2. Sessions usually run from 6pm–9pm on most Mondays during the season.
Keelboat Racing: Held on Tuesday evenings and some weekends. New crew are often welcome – we’d suggest coming along to the pre-race briefing (usually around an hour before the start time) and seeing if any boats have space.
Learn to Sail – We’ve now completed our scheduled training courses for 2025. Thank you to everyone who took part!
We’re already planning ahead for 2026 and expect to offer a full programme once again. Keep an eye out for updates early in the year.
If you’re interested in a particular course, please register and Be the First to Hear About New Courses!
We’ll email you as soon as that course – or something similar – becomes available for booking.
Want to get involved as a volunteer?
Whether you’ve got time to give on the water, behind the scenes, or just occasionally, we’d love to hear from you. Volunteering is a great way to meet others and support the club. You can let us know you’re interested by filling in this short form: Volunteer Interest Form
Visiting Sailors and Yacht Club Guests
We’re always pleased to welcome visiting sailors, including those from other clubs in the UK and overseas. Please note that Oban Sailing Club is a small, volunteer-led club without restaurant or staffed facilities like some larger clubs abroad. That said, if you’re interested in joining in with any of our activities during your stay, you’d be very welcome – feel free to get in touch for more details.
Do you hire boats?
We’re not able to offer boats for independent hire.
Clubhouse & Bar Access
The clubhouse is not regularly manned, and the bar is only open during or after scheduled sailing club activities and for specific events. It’s not open to the public on a drop-in basis.
