OSC Rescue Boat Practice Days

OSC Rescue Boat Practice Days

Practice your powerboat skills afloat

A chance for members who have a Powerboat Level 2 certificate to practice boat handling and dinghy rescue techniques, especially those that do not get used very often during club events, such as assisting with the larger club boats in a capsize. There will be a powerboat instructor there to provide coaching, but this is not a formal course.

To allow practice to take place during COVID restrictions, we will be allowing members to book one of the club powerboats for a 2 hour period during Sunday 25th April. There will be an unmanned sailing dinghy available for each powerboat to allow you to practice any techniques you would like to.

Crews will need to be from the same household, but need not be powerboat drivers themselves. If you’re an experienced driver who would like to try rescue techniques singlehanded then you can sign up alone.

The powerboat instructor will be on the pontoon and happy to provide instruction of techniques before you try them and some coaching if you would like it. The session is suitable for experienced drivers to get back in the boats or newer drivers to learn the skills.

Previously there would also have been a session going through the setting up and putting away process for the club RIBs, and a reminder of where everything is kept. To reduce the need for in person sessions we will produce short videos covering this part of the day for members to watch.

Course Requirements

RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate

Age 16+ or 12-15 and come with an adult who also holds the PB2 certificate

You also need to have a basic understanding of sailing dinghies, however you don’t need to be confident rigging all of the club dinghies, as this is one of the things you can practice. If you’re unsure if this session is right for you then please contact us.
