Summer Newsletter 2019

August 20, 2019 Off By steve_t1496345

Dear Members

The club has had one of its busiest summers of activity on the water for both keelboats and dinghies involving many members as participants, instructors and volunteers.

Another well organised and successful Round Mull Race, involving circumnavigation of Mull, with David Preston and Jim Tolmie as race officers recording 3 finishes for each leg. Also WHYW maintained a 70 strong fleet in the 72nd year of the series.

Jamie Rodgers has organised a diverse range of powerboat and dinghy training courses. In May and June there was dinghy training for High School pupils, Appin Primary School joined us for 4 days in mid June and 3 weeks of summer courses in early August enabled our existing youngsters to improve sail handling skills, introduced new primary children to dinghy sailing and delivered some adult beginner dinghy training. The Monday Mayhem fun sessions continue weekly to ensure as many people can continue to keep sailing.
What a fantastic amount of effort has gone in behind the scenes to enable so many people to get on the water.

The Club has been successful in gaining funding from local charity ‘Argyll Beats Cardiovascular Disease’ (ABCD) to purchase 18No helmets for dinghy sailing. These were purchased and used during the summer primary sailing courses. A photoshoot and presentation is organised for Monday 19 August at 6.30pm during the Monday mayhem session.

And lastly the committee have organised a grass cutting of the dinghy park for 6pm on Wednesday 21 August to tidy and prepare the dinghy park ahead of our annual dinghy regatta. Please come down at 6pm and assist with moving boats etc as many volunteer hands make light work for all.

Enjoy the remaining sailing season
