Regatta update-please read
Dear members
Many thanks to those who indicated they were able to support the Regatta this weekend, either with sailing or with assistance. Due to various unfortunate circumstances we’re going to have to completely revise our ambitions for the weekend. The keelboat fleet has been particularly hard hit so with regret there will be no keelboat sailing this weekend.
However, there are quite a number of people wanting to dinghy sail so what we’re proposing is to have sailing on just one day, Saturday 13th, meeting at the club at 1pm and getting on the water at 2pm until late afternoon. This will be followed by a BBQ with the bar open.
Dinghy events will include
– a series of standard races for regatta trophies
– a series of ‘fun’ races for novices with various chocolatey prizes
– typical ‘Mayhem’ social sailing
It may well be that others wish to bring a kayak or a paddleboard or a fishing rod, or …… Those who have recently come through the training courses are particularly welcome to join in.
Without drawing up a formal helpers plan, those who were willing to help on Saturday please come down and we can certainly find things for you to do…… In particular, anyone with bar training would be appreciated.
I’m sorry this isn’t the inclusive club regatta we had hoped it might be. Unfortunately we can’t control everything. I’ve already had some imaginative and progressive suggestions for how we might rebuild it for next year. Something to plan for over the winter perhaps.
Hope to see many of you on Saturday
